CPS Students Job Shadow Directions’ Employees

Employees from Directions Training, an Chicago-based IT and professional development training company, spent the morning of March 18th demonstrating business skills for 19 CPS students (Chicago Public School students).

At Directions’ Chicago location, located at 208 S. LaSalle Street, CPS students arrived at 9:00am and were greeted by Marketing Manager, Halie Stinson; HR Manager, Lauren Didier; IT Operations Supervisor, Mike Fernandes; and Staff Accountant, LaTasha Pitts. For the next three hours the Directions’ team engaged students in activities that displayed the roles they play in day-to-day operations and shared about the value higher education adds to their careers. In addition, they critiqued résumés and hosted mock job interviews. After a focused morning, everyone took time to enjoy lunch from Potbelly’s and the Direction’s staff opened the floor to student questions.

The Chicago Public School Department of Career and Technical Education’s annual job shadow was a success in the eyes of Directions’ founder and President, Jennifer Didier. “Directions is very excited to participate in CPS Job Shadow day as it helps our youth understand the transition from education to career,” says Didier. “It is our pleasure to host students at our learning facility where they participate in projects, mock interviews and so much more. It gives them the flavor of a day in the life of a working professional.”

CPS agrees. The Career and Technical Education Partnership Development Liaison, Jennifer Mitchell writes, “It was a privilege for students to have received a high quality work-based learning opportunity from experts in their chosen career paths who provided much needed career, résumé writing and interviewing advice.”

This was Directions’ second year participating in the CPS job shadow.
