Top Microsoft Certifications for IT Professionals

IT Professionals are central to an organization’s well being. No company can survive, let alone thrive, apart from IT professionals who are knowledgeable about the industry. The article Why Businesses Need Information Systems and Technology Professionals, published by South University, stated, “Once, IT was purely for competitive advantage reasons, but…IT is now a necessity. There is no business without IT or IS anymore.” Company leaders worldwide know this and onboard IT employees constantly. In fact, it’s estimated that IT jobs will increase by 12 percent from now until 2024. This is great news for those in the Information Technology industry, or who plan to enter the field.

Microsoft Certifications Increase an IT Professional’s Value

The demand for IT workers is growing due to the simple fact that organizations are rapidly switching to cloud computing. This means companies must rely on Information Technology pros to make the transition to cloud computing as seamless as possible. IT professionals who have technical certifications in up-to-the-minute cloud computing technologies will be the most valuable, and therefore the most competitive, in their field. Microsoft reported that its certifications increase IT workers’ professional value and decreases the time it takes for them to get hired:

“In some cases, certification (via Windows) has allowed hiring managers to fill positions 25% more quickly. What’s more, certified new hires are fully productive an entire month sooner than their uncertified peers. This level of productivity makes your impact and skills clearly stand out.”

It’s easy to understand why an employer would be eager to hire a Microsoft-certified technician who can be onboarded in less time than a non-Windows-trained IT professional. Also, Microsoft-certified technicians make up to 15% more income than uncertified individuals. Obviously, it pays when professionals invest in Microsoft training/certifications.

Top Microsoft Certifications for Information Technology Pros

Did you know that about 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies are currently using Microsoft cloud computing technologies? A statistic like this indicates that IT pros would be wise to get certified in Microsoft programs as soon as possible. But, which ones? Since there are so many individual Microsoft certifications, it is most efficient to pursue Microsoft Streamlined Certification Paths. These certification paths were designed by Microsoft and align with industry-recognized areas of competence.

Currently, there are five different Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and Developer (MCSD) specialties that are used by the Microsoft Partner Network. They include:

  • Mobility
  • Cloud Platform and Infrastructure
  • Productivity
  • Data Management and Analytics
  • App Builder

Individuals who choose the Mobility Path will take four courses, one being an elective. Those who pass these courses will be fully capable of installing and configuring Windows 10 and configuring Windows devices.

Cloud Platform and Infrastructure

The Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Path will qualify participants to install, configure, and administer Windows Server 2012; install, store, compute, and network with Windows Server 2016; and manage Microsoft Azure, among other things.

Professionals interested in installing, configuring, and administering Windows Server 2012, as well as managing and enabling Office 365, should consider the Productivity Path.

Data Management and Analytics

The Data Management and Analytics Path is appropriate for Information Technology workers who want to become experts in querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014, administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014 databases, implementing data warehouses, and developing SQL databases.

App Builder

The App Builder Path prepares professionals to program in HTML5 with JavaScript, develop ASP.NET MVC Web applications, and develop other types of mobile apps.

With Microsoft Streamlined Certification Paths, there truly is something for everyone. These paths eliminate the confusion that can result from choosing single courses from a large pool of options, and offer cohesive plans for high-level IT certification.

Which of the five Microsoft Streamlined Certification Paths are you most drawn to?

  1. I didn’t know that about 80% of companies are using Microsoft cloud computing technologies. That is pretty cool that a lot of businesses, do run on the same programs though. It would make it very important for someone to know how to use the Microsoft programs then. I will have to see if I can better learn some of their programs.
