A common question that arises when discussing client setup for System Center Configuration Manager 2012 is the use of the CCMSetup.exe program and the associated switches used to configure the client.

The System Center 2012 Configuration Manager CCMSetup.exe command is used to install the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager client software. The program provides several command line switches that can be used to customize the installation behavior of the client software.

The CCMSetup program will download the files necessary to perform the client installation. CCMSetup can be configured to provide information about the management point or source location of the files to be installed.

The following table includes some of the more common switches which are useful in the client installation process.

Property Description
/? Opens the CCMSetup showing command-line properties for ccmsetup.exe.

/source:<Path> Specifies the location from which to download installation files. You can use a local or UNC installation path. Files are downloaded by using the server message block (SMB) protocol.
/mp:<Computer> Specifies a source management point for computers to connect to so that they can find the nearest distribution point to download the client installation files. If no distribution points are available or computers cannot download the files from the distribution points after four hours, clients download the files from the specified management point.

Example: ccmsetup.exe /uninstall
/logon Specifies that the client installation should stop if any version of the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager or the Configuration Manager client is already installed.
