How to Reset Default Spacing in Microsoft Word

Want to fix your default spacing in Word 2007/2010/2013? Have you recently upgraded from Microsoft Word 2003 and noticed the spacing is not the same? Want your single spacing back? Here’s a quick fix to resetting your default spacing:

  1. Click on the HOME tab
  2. From the Paragraph group, click on the dialog box launcher (hint: small arrow at the bottom right corner of the group)
  3. When the dialog box appears, complete the following steps:
    1. Change line spacing from “Multiple” to “Single
    2. Change spacing after from “10” to “0
    3. Click on the “Set as Default” button
    4. Choose the option button “All documents based on the Normal template
    5. Click OK
  4. All documents from this point forward will now have single spacing
